Ducks? Where?!?!?

Recently I went on a cruise with a company I was previously employed by. I booked the pre-inaugural (or shake down) voyage on the Celebrity Xcel, Celebrity Cruises newest ship. It didn’t take long until I found my first duck while I was onboard. For those of you who aren’t aware, little ducks have become prevalent onboard cruise ships. Some people are duck collectors, cataloging the ducks they find on trips and cruise voyages. Some people have become such enthusiasts that they bring their own ducks and hide them around the ships. If this is the first time hearing about this, you’re probably unaware of the mini duck universe that exists. It often requires a serious attention to detail, which is why some people have never seen one. So while I was onboard the Celebrity Xcel, I found several ducks and also so weird tiny Jesus’s…

Anyway, the whole idea got me thinking. Maybe the cruise lines should start creating their own ducks. Maybe even just a few could be collectors editions not unlike the KLM Airlines Dutch Houses that they still give out to people flying in First Class to and from the Netherlands. If you haven’t seen them it’s a serious thing. Anyway I thought, wouldn’t be cool if there was a duck for each ship… and then I really started thinking about it and thought, man… there should be Duck Officers, like Captain & Staff Captain ducks, Chief Engineer Duck, Safety Duck, Hotel Duck-ector, Cruise Duck-ector, maybe even an Environmental Duck, or a Ductor (Doctor).

I found the pink one. I created the white one.

So I’ve started creating a few Ducks, just for fun. Maybe eventually I will make enough to send to a President or CEO of a cruise line I have previously worked for. I mean we’ve seen some interesting things lately, like the “Chief Dog Officer” on Royal Caribbean’s Icon OTS & Star OTS. Just imagine a Chief Duck-Dog Officer… LOL
