Unique Candle Holders
Recently, I have been pushing the envelope of what I can create, more specifically what I can create that people such as myself would appreciation. Well that little rabbit hole started to take me down a deep dark path of wanting to create something new. My new mission was to create candle holders or more specifically tea light holders.
I thought, what’s a unique spin that I can place on candle holders… and then just like that, I started to envision hands holding candles or tea lights. So then I thought what’s one thing I might be able to print that rarely has any imagination when it comes to candles??? You guessed it, a Menorah… I mean such an inspiring story and yet all you can find online is uninspiring Menorahs, but I didn’t just want to create Menorahs… I wanted something truly versatile that could be used for any occasion, any holiday, any event. So I thought, why not?!?! Let’s create some new Candle Holders.
So the first step was to conceptualize something entirely new. I started to create sketches, mostly in my head. Next, it was quite simple. I was going to need a hand. Actually I was going to need several hands. I was going to need some that were neutral that could apply as both men’s and women's hands in a number of different poses, so I went hand shopping online. Once I found a few, I purchased them and brought them into my preferred App “Blender” where I started reshaping them, cutting them, applying filters like the “decimate modifier”, I’ve talked about in other blog posts. Once I had 9 great hands to work with, I sent them to the printer for a mock-up mini print. To be honest, I wasn’t certain as to how they would turn out. They came out masterfully.
Next, I decided I needed to raise the bar. With just 24 hours before leaving on my trip for Las Vegas, I was convinced, I could print out the full sized hands in time. Except this time I would have to make some modifications. The mock-ups were created to be candle holders from a counter top, however I decided I wanted to make candle holders that could be wall mounted, either as a single piece like a menorah or multiple pieces that could be spread around the wall or around the house, keeping with a nice neutral but fun theme. I also found some Tea Lights that were rechargeable that could save many future batteries. So I moved forward with my re-designs and printed for the whole day on 4 printers. One by one they started churning out hands and I started trying them out. By 10pm , I was like OK… it’s gonna be close, but I have to complete them before I leave. At 5am, they were done, with a few minor issues with the main piece, but that’s something I can iron out when I return. Overall, I think they are great and I look forward to trying them out.
